ONTHERAIL is the brainchild of two refugees from the restaurant industry. Gary Epting and Janet Fouts,
co-founders of ONTHERAIL met while working at the venerable Square One Restaurant in San Francisco.
In 1996, they were rare critters. Janet was a working chef writing her recipes in UNIX and Gary, a waiter/painter,
was convinced that jpg compression could be applied to pigment as well as pixels. It seemed natural to them
to set aside the time-honored antipathy between the crafts, chef vs. waiter, and pool their skills.
Since that armistice, the site has grown into a thriving community for professionals in all areas of the
restaurant industry. The membership has grown, and the newsgroups and bulletin boards are very active. ONTHERAIL
has become a valuable online resource for anyone who wants to know more about the industry and those seeking
a place that speaks their language.
ONTHERAIL offers multi-media and website design through our sister site, Tatu Digital Media,
working from a knowledge base gained over a combined 40 years in the business to build sites that suit their clients
needs and get their message across. ONTHERAIL provides a place for industry press information, job postings, and
current events, website hosting and free e-mail services as well.
